For an indulgent, decadent treat that doesn’t break bank, try this wine.

High up in the Uco Valley in Mendoza, is a small area called Los Arboles, where you’ll find Mauricio’s Malbec vineyard.

I’ve been there and it’s remote - it’s in the middle of absolutely nowhere.

But it’s an incredibly special place to grow vines...

  • The altitude is 1,250m, so you get very hot days and really cold nights. This temperature fluctuation is great for producing grapes with intense flavour and freshness
  • It’s very dry - Mendoza is basically a desert. They get only 200mm of rain per year, and the soils are sandy and stony and don’t retain water. So Mauricio can control precisely the amount of water the vines need through irrigation from nearby melted Andes snow
  • The final bit which Mauricio can’t quite put his finger on… the shoots in the vineyard are red, not green. Usually you get the odd red shoot in a vineyard but in this Los Arboles vineyard, 90% of the shoots are red. He has no idea why but they go on to produce amazingly flavoured grapes.

Mauricio takes a small corner in his special Los Arboles vineyard and decreases the yield per vine by 40%, making the flavours in the grapes incredibly rich and concentrated.

In the winery he puts it in 100% new French oak for 18 months. Followed by 4 years ageing in  bottle. There literally isn’t a dime spared in the making of this wine.

The result is a dark, brooding red with layers of wood, dark fruit and chocolate. It’s dense and long… the flavours go on forever in your mouth.

It’s a WineSpark exclusive and the insane value here is not normal. But that’s why you’re here!

An excellent full-bodied and really smooth Malbec - one of my best ever red wines !!

I hadn't tried a Malbec in a while but when I tried this red, I really feel in love with a smooth, rounded and well-bodied red wine. It just slips down the throat so easily. I liked it so much that I ended up buying a full case of it and am looking forward to it.

Hi Dermot, thanks for the great review, I agree it's one to bring you back to the wonderful world of top Malbec
Cheers Eamon

Interesting. Initial bouquet unremarkable. Needs opening an hour before drinking.

Good accompaniment to steak. Would recommend drinking now.

Top notch malbec!

This is Mauricio at his best, just lovely sumptuous big argentian malbec. How could you go wrong with this combination. We tried this with its cheaper brother. This is a significant step up. Suggest putting into carafe let breath, enjoy with barbecue roast rib via green egg or equivalent!
