If you liked the Bergerac, then it’s time to step up to the Montravel.
The blend is similar - 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec - this has a higher proportion of Cabernet Franc.
The soil here though is a lot poorer than Bergerac - it’s stony and flinty, which gives a lot of concentration to the grapes.
Then Francois makes the wine in a bigger style - lots of extraction, malolactic fermentation in barrels, and longer ageing in oak.
It’s a deep, fruit-driven, vibrant wine, with lots of nice oak and juicy, earthy flavours.
Francois tells me he loves making wine, but he's terrible at selling it. Judging by this quality, he makes selling easy with quality like this!
And because it’s Bergerac and not Bordeaux, the value you’re getting here is sensational.
