This vintage is now sold out, so we need to wait for the next one! In the meantime, for the purest expression of Syrah, try the Easthope Family Winegrowers Hawke's Bay Syrah 2020.

Crozes Hermitage is a big region by northern Rhone standards… but all the best stuff hides out on the gentle, sun-exposed slopes of the northern side of the Rhone river. And that’s exactly where you’ll find Laurent’s vineyards.

His vineyards are old - 40-60 years - and have been farmed organically since 2008. This was the first year Laurent bottled his wines without sulphites - his aim is to achieve the purest, most artisanal representation of the special place he grows his vines.

You get an intense, dark fruit nose, with lashings of white pepper and herbs. This follows through to the palate, where it’s fresh, spicy and savoury - it’s just delicious juice.

Wine magazine Decanter agree, giving it 92 points, which placed it in joint 2nd place of a recent Crozes Hermitage tasting.

If you want to taste pure, peppery Syrah from the home of pure, peppery Syrah, this is exactly the place to start.
