Cebreros, Spain
Bárbara Requejo
When it comes to Spanish fine wine, Cebreros is now the talk of the town.
- It’s all about Garnacha here, which is the same grape (Grenache) behind great Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Priorat
- The unique combination of high altitude and sandy-granite soils in Cebreros produces Garnacha with intense flavour, but also great finesse
- Think Burgundian elegance with Spanish sunshine, and you’re in business.
Some of the great Spanish wine regions - Ribera del Duero, Priorat, Bierzo... all spent years in the shadows before their potential was discovered.
Cebreros is the next on that list, I have no doubt about it.
Now meet one of Spain’s hottest young talents.
Aged just 30, Bárbara Requejo already has a CV that most winemakers would dream of.
She’s worked in some of the finest wine regions of the world, including Bordeaux (at Château Haut-Brion), Champagne, Sonoma and Central Otago
Then after making wine for Soto Manrique, one of Cebreros' leading producers, Bárbara and partner Guzmán Sánchez de la Parra decided to go it alone with their first vintage in 2020.
My friend Ferran Centelles, one of Spain’s most respected wine critics, wrote that Bárbara is ‘destined to rival Rico Nuevo and Comando G on the podium of the best winemakers in Cebreros’.
You already have direct access to some of Spain's hottest young talents... you can now add Bárbara to that list.
