The Languedoc is France’s biggest vineyard, with a whopping 190,000 hectares of land under vine.

So it’s fair to say that you need a bit of help from the locals to find out where the best stuff is hiding.

Step forward Virgile and Magdalena Joly, two brilliant people that I’ve known for years through my time at Naked Wines in the UK.

Right up in the north-east of the Languedoc is the Terrasses du Larzac - a rocky, windswept region producing some of the region’s most exciting (and expensive) wines.

Saint-Saturnin is an up-and-coming appellation in the Larzac’s southern foothills, with hot days and cold nights producing reds with great freshness and ageability.

And who better to show you Saint-Saturnin than Monsieur le Président himself, Virgile Joly?

Virgile made his first wine here in 2000, and each year his stock has risen, until in 2016 he was elected president of the appellation, to drive it forward.

Magda is from Poland originally, and met Virgile while doing a harvest there 20 years ago. They fell in love and the rest is history.

We worked together for years in the UK, and I’m delighted to finally bring Virgile and Magda’s wines to Ireland.
