When it comes to fine wine in Spain, Bierzo is a region on the rise.
But not all Bierzo is made equally. This wine is from a remote village called San Pedro de Olleros, high up in the Los Ancares mountains.
It’s in the middle of a beautiful UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and it’s cooler and fresher up here than down in the main Bierzo valley.
It means the grapes are incredibly vibrant and healthy, and you can see this shine through in the wine.
This Godello has a creamy and complex nose, with stunning honeyed and floral flavours. On the palate it's gentle, soft and silky, with incredible length and purity. It reminds me of a great aged Riesling!
Winemaker Silvia Marrao is one of Bierzo's rising stars - with wines like these, it's easy to see why!
