Priorat is probably the greatest place in the world for the Carignan grape.

And one of the best examples is this wine, made from 100% Carignan from Marc’s grandfather’s 100+ year old vines.

Wine magazine Decanter agree, in a recent expert tasting declaring it the joint 2nd best Carignan in Spain.

The work in the vineyard here is intense - steep slopes, all manual, back-breaking work, all for a piddly 1 ton yield per hectare.

But the wine is worth it, as is the honour of working with these treasures of old vineyards. And to respect the generations who have worked the land before us.

The nose is incredible, you could just sniff it all day. It’s loaded with herbs, ripe fruit and white pepper. Then the taste in the mouth is incredible - juicy, full, smooth with layers of sweet black fruit, liquorice, violets and soft oak.

Because Marc is a small producer rather than a big established name, you’re getting amazing value here for one of Priorat’s best wines.

Just two hours from Barcelona, I love drinking and visiting Priorat - if you like your reds big, and with tons going on, then Marc’s wines are for you.

Ferran was sommelier at the famed El Bulli for 13 years, and now writes for JancisRobinson.com as the Spanish wine writer. There probably isn’t a more respected wine palate in Spain.

Honestly you can just savour this on its own. But also goes brilliantly with your best roast lamb.
