César makes three single plot wines at the top of his range - which show the amazing potential of Bierzo as one of the world’s best regions for extremely fine wine.

The Pico Ferreira vineyard is located on a steep, rocky vineyard covered in slate and facing north-eastwards. The vines are over 100 years old.

Wines from surrounding this plot sell for several hundred euros per bottle.

César is one of Spain’s rising star winemakers, and thanks to his close working relationship with his famous uncle, Raúl Pérez, he gets access to magical sites like these.

His winemaking then is where his star quality really shines through. The wine is fermented slowly and naturally in open barrels, with 50% of whole bunches left in to ensure good structure in the wine.

Once fermentation is finished, it’s aged in big French oak barrels for 12 months.

It’s very soft and gentle winemaking, to allow the amazing Pico Ferreira fruit to shine.

The nose is so distinctive and aromatic which is to be expected from the slate soils - it’s dark, savoury and earthy, with lovely pepper and florals. The palate is so elegant and balanced, and has a long and precise finish.

This wine received 96 points from Robert Parker - given the pedigree of the vineyard and winemaker, it’s a bargain for the price.

Due to limited stocks, there's a limit of 2 bottles per customer on this wine.
