This is Sangiovese, but not as as you know it.

It’s Sangiovese Piccolo, a close cousin of the Sangiovese you’ll find in Tuscany.

The bunches and berries are smaller, and as a result there’s a greater skin-juice ratio. You get more colour, more fruitiness and softer tannins in the wine.

This is a great and gentle introduction to Predappio Sangiovese. Chiara takes the grapes from three different vineyard sites, each parcel giving something different to the wine.

The vineyards are farmed organically, so the fruit is healthy and buoyant. Everything is picked and sorted by hand - so only the best fruit makes it through.

The wine is aged in big oak casks, and then in concrete tanks before being bottled. Ensuring none of that tasty fruit gets overshadowed by the oak.

The nose is classically Italian - it’s savoury and leathery, with lovely bright red fruit and peppery notes. The palate is rich and balanced, with good intensity and lifted finish.

If you’re a fan of those charming Italian reds, then this is one to add to the list.
