Oscar describes this as his signature wine - because dozens of high-end restaurants and bars across Northern Spain rely on it as a big seller, it needs to be consistently awesome every single year.

The Tempranillo grapes for this are sourced from 40-80 year-old plots across 3 villages around Oscar’s winery. It spends 13 months ageing in 2nd- and 3rd-use French oak barrels, which were first used for Oscar’s iconic Torresilo wine. It’s then aged for a further year in bottle to bring all the fruity and oaky flavours together.

This is an amazing example of affordable and approachable Ribera del Duero, whether you’re new to Ribera or a complete convert like me.

It was on a trip early in my wine career to see Oscar and his sister Amelia that I properly fell in love with Ribera del Duero.

Ribera is right beside Rioja in northern Spain but because it sits on an elevated plain, the days are hotter and nights are colder. So the wines tend to be more powerful, but also fresher. It’s the perfect recipe for creating ultra-premium and long-lived reds.

Goes amazingly with any kind of lamb - roast, chops, steaks, stews. Especially a tomato-based stew.

Cillar de Silas 2020

Our latest order of the Cillar was very disappointing. In fact we thought the 1st bottle we opened was corked. We then opened a 2nd bottle and left it for 15 minutes. It was not corked but certainly was not up to the standard of our previous orders., and something we would not serve to guests. We haven’t tried it since - we haven’t wanted to !

Hi Linda, I'm very sorry that you felt the wines weren't up to the usual standard. We'll be in touch to make this up to you. Best regards, Eamon

Super wine

Had this at the weekend with leg of lamb - a wonderful combo - Emilio Moro was by favourite RDD but this now takes the number 1 position

Thanks Noel that's super to hear and perfect food match too! Cheers Eamon

Intensely flavoured but still easy drinking, smooth black cherry and blackberry

Much darker fruit than expected for Tempranillo. Low-ish acid and tannin means it’s almost better on it’s own but robust fruit will stand up well to hearty dishes.

Thanks Joe - this wine is a winner alright! Glad you enjoyed. Cheers Eamon

Winespark Recomendation

A delightful all round wine, which we enjoyed so much we reordered another case. Ideal as an aperitif to share with friends as it is very acceptable to most palates. 9/10 from this couple. 🍷
