Believe it or not, Ribera del Duero was best known for rosé 400 years ago. How times have changed - but there are nods to this history with this wine.

Back in the day, Ribera wines were deep coloured and tannic. So Tempranillo vineyards were planted with a white grape called Albillo, which was then blended into the reds, to soften them up.

There’s around 15% of Albillo in this rosé, which not only lightens the colour, but gives a gorgeous citrusy flavour to the wild strawberries and herbs of the Tempranillo.

This is an amazing food wine so be sure to have a few in the fridge for your next barbecue - and unlike 99.9% of rosés this will last well into 2022 and beyond.

It was on a trip early in my wine career to see Oscar and his sister Amelia that I properly fell in love with Ribera del Duero.

Ribera is right beside Rioja in northern Spain but because it sits on an elevated plain, the days are hotter and nights are colder. So the wines tend to be more powerful, but also fresher. It’s the perfect recipe for creating ultra-premium and long-lived reds.

Read more about Oscar.

This is mostly sold in bars in Galicia, Asturias and across the north coast of Spain. So think of any food you’d find there… squid, octopus, prawns, cured meats, manchego… you get the idea.

Fresh

Nice… , easy to drink on a sunny evening

Here's hoping we have lots more sunny evenings this summer!

I love this wine.

I find a lot of rosé wines are too light. This one has a bit more bite. We’ve enjoyed this one all summer. Summer here has been awful, so a rosé that leans a bit more towards a red is perfect for Irish weather.

Really refreshing and tasty

I don't usually go for a rose but this was a winner for me. Much reordering will be done
