Cordero Hica Barbera d'Alba 2019
WineSpark Price €27.34
This wine is now sold out, we're expecting more back in June! For another big Italian red, try the I Filari Toscana Cabernet Franc.
This a tiny production wine, Serena's pet project, never sold outside of Italy before. Which makes it extra special to drink it.
Serena learnt how to make wine with her dad, a highly experienced and respected consultant winemaker, and this wine in turn is like a daughter to her.
Barbera is often overlooked compared to its more illustrious neighbours like Barolo - but don’t let that fool you - this is a stunning wine.
It’s a Barbera Superiore - a classification only given to the top 20% of grapes in the region. It’s from a vineyard called Bricco Gatti, which is well known in the area for producing the best Barbera because of its unique site and soils.
This is a deep, rich red with serious personality. ‘A bit impolite like me’ says Serena. At the same time it’s soft, elegant and very drinkable.
If you love your Italian reds, this is absolutely guaranteed to be right up your street.
And on the name Hica… it’s a play on Hija, which means 'daughter' in Spanish. Why is Hica spelt that way? ‘It's a Serena thing’ she says.
If you know Serena, you'd get it. Which you do now.
Due to low stock, there's a limit of 3 bottles per customer on this wine.

Serena and Gabriele Cordero are a brother and sister duo from Alba in northern Italy.
I've known Serena and her dad Gianfranco for years at Naked Wines, so I knew exactly who to ask when I was looking for some special Barolo and Barbera for WineSpark.

I bought this pack when you first sent out the email a few months ago. I was starting to get my Christmas wine list ready and this was one of a few I had lined up. The search was pretty short because after having this with our lunch one Sunday I knew I had the right wine!
Superb example of a great Italian red. Beautiful, warming, slow sipping by the fireside on chilly evenings.
Enjoyed at home ...but one I would happily bring to dinner with friends
Very impressive. Fruity and floral with nice length. Had some after the 2019 Stepp Pinot. No comparison! So much more personality. About to order another 6 bottles!!
A classy red that is well worth the price. Would recommend it.
Loved this-full bodied but not too heavy.
