This is Thibaud’s flagship wine, and a great introduction to the Juliénas sub-region of Beaujolais.

It’s the perfect balance of the bright red fruit of the Gamay grape, and the earthiness of the ‘terroir’ of Juliénas.

This was the fifth year that Thibaud made this wine, and each year he’s made small improvements to make it better. But the key to Juliénas is time - and this wine has had two years’ ageing before it reaches your glass.

I first tasted this at Thibaud’s winery, Domaine de Boischampt, and we enjoyed it later that evening in his kitchen with his wife Antonie and two kids.

If you like a classic southern French red, like Ben’s Minervois, this wine is for you.

Winemakers like Thibaud Baudin are driving the new Beaujolais forward. Although he’s only 37, his CV is impeccable. Following stints at Paul Jaboulet, Domaine de la Vougerie and Domaine d’Henri, he settled in Juliénas in 2018 with wife Antonie and two young kids.

I had this in Thibaud's kitchen along with his family on a Monday night - we had lasagne, a simple green salad and crusty bread. It was divine with such great food and company!

Classic Beaujolais

Light in the glass like the classic Beaujolais, initially light on the palate but broadens out, good depth and lovely finish. A classy glass of wine.

Thanks Ger, couldn't agree more!

Seriously good bang for your buck

This is such good value at €23 - I've enjoyed this week steak, poultry, lamb, cheeses and each time it's been such a good accompaniment. It's light enough to pair with lighter foods but rich enough for red meat - really like this wine.

So pleased you like it Daire – thank you!

Delicious from the first sip

We let is breath for about 30 mins before drinking, but deliciously smooth from the first sip. Everyone enjoyed it, even my very knowledgeable wine drinking BIL 😊. Good value! We did struggle to get the white wax seal off, we had to use a knife, it came away in small bits, we worried some of the bits might fall into the wine. Any tips on opening it more efficiently?

So happy you liked it Catherine! Ah yes, we find the little knife on a traditional waiter's corkscrew is best for paring the wax off easily.

This is a really splendid wine. I like to open it half an hour before consumption.

A go to wine when a lighter red is called for.

Excellent tip, thanks Jerry!
