This wine is so good, but it almost didn’t happen.

When Laurent’s father Jean wanted to plant Chardonnay vines in an old Gamay vineyard 20 years ago, everyone told him he was mad.

He discovered some pink marl in the soil and had a hunch that this would suit Chardonnay down to the ground.

This wine proves what a good call that was. It’s a Chardonnay with great energy and complexity - exactly what you want from a good white Burgundy.

Laurent ages the wine in a combination of 20% new and 80% old oak barrels. He gets his barrels from Austria, which is unusual in this area - but he believes the older, more tightly knit wood gives a more subtle oaky flavour to the wine.

A winemaker friend in Chablis once told him “il faut fêter deux Pâques avant de mettre en bouteille” which means “you need two Easters before bottling”.

This is Laurent’s philosophy for ageing his whites - so by the time you get them, they’re in absolute peak drinking condition, and will age beautifully too.

Lovely crisp not so buttery chardonnay

We’re enjoying this one .
One of us is a Chardonnay lover and finds it has a slight mineral taste.

This could be a top class burgundy!

I had never paid much heed to Marsannay before being introduced to this wine by Winespark. The price suggested it ought to be good and I was not disappointed. This is as good as “posh area” burgundys at double the price and more. Wonderful balance of fruit and acidity with a lengthy finish.
