Due to low stock, there is a limit of two bottles per customer with this wine!

Rod tells me New Zealand can hang its hat on three unique and distinct styles in the world of wine: Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Central Otago Pinot Noir, and Hawke’s Bay Syrah.

You probably know the first two - so it's time you got to know the third.

If you love a good Northern Rhone Syrah like Crozes Hermitage or St Joseph, this wine is for you.

The fruit comes from Rod and Emma’s home vineyard, overlooking the Ngaruroro River, in the Mangatahi district of Hawke’s Bay.

The elevated vineyard on free-draining, red gravel soils combine to produce Syrah grapes bursting with florals, pepper and blueberry fruit.

Rod then takes inspiration from drinking the great wines of Europe, when deciding how to turn this beautiful fruit into the amazing wine that it is.

He ferments 100% ‘whole-bunch’, which means the grapes are kept on their stems during fermentation. This is a technique that goes back 100 years, but is practiced in the great wines of Europe.

Rod believes the stems maximise the vineyard character and add a level of interest and sophistication to the wine.

Get your best large wine glasses out for this wine - take your time with it and enjoy.

Really good NZ Syrah. Lovely North Rhone style nose of violets and spice. Full bodied but with good structure and light tannins. Reminds me a lot of Trinity Hill syrahs and definitely my favourite red wine grape in NZ. Really good value compared to a typical St Joseph (92)
