Central Otago is about as far south as you’ll find vineyards in the world.

You get Pinot Noir with real depth and intensity here, but also an elegance and consistency that puts it right up there with Burgundy and the great Pinot regions.

Grasshopper Rock comes from a vineyard near Alexandra called Earnscleugh - which is widely recognised as one of Central Otago’s Grand Cru equivalent sites.

The nose is vivid and perfumed with red fruit, wild herbs and sweet spices. The palate is silky, gentle and balanced, with a long and smooth finish cushioned by some lovely oak.

And don’t just take my word for it… Decanter gave it 94 points and Robert Parker gave it 95 - both outstanding scores for wines from around here.

Worth Trying

I liked this. I bought 6 bottles on Eamon's plug in Jan! Sitting here now enjoying my first bottle. A quality Pinot that hits the back of the mouth. Nicely nuanced but has some character, especially so when you think what high end Burgundy costs! Only 5 bottles left!

Appreciate the feedback, Niall - great to hear you enjoyed it.

In recent years I have got to like Pinot Noir more and more. This is as good as any I have tried. Fresh, smooth and very pleasing

Hi Patrick,

Great to hear this Pinot Noir has become a standout for you!

I was pleasantly surprised by this wine. Normally I never consider any red less than 14% ABV, but even though the Grasshopper Rock weighs in at only 13.3%, Eamon's purple prose worked its magic and I thought I'd give it a spin on the dance floor. (Doing the Grasshopper Rock? Never mind.) Yes, as I was saying, lovely wine - silky smooth, as Eamon says, and with a fresh, flowery, springlike smell and taste. That's what I thought, anyway. COME ON IRELAND

Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We’re delighted you took a chance on the Grasshopper Rock and that it won you over.

Just a superb Pinot noir

At a beef stew meal with friends.
All loved it.
Just get it.
Even the lady who did not like red wine as too heavy, thought it was fantastic.

We’re delighted to hear the Pinot Noir was such a hit at your dinner - it’s always special when a wine brings a whole table together.

Very underwhelmed

I didn’t really. I felt it was not up to the same standard as other Pinot Noirs. I thought the Stepp was superior.

Very good value for money

Actually a great companion with a chicken lasagne more on the tomato side.

Thanks for the review, Andreas. Great to hear it paired well with the Chicken lasagne.
