Federico Cerelli's latest creation from Sicily is here.

It's from the village of Salaparuta, which is one hour south of Palermo on the island's western side.

The Nero d'Avola vineyards have been farmed organically for over 20 years, and with strong winds blowing through all year round, the grapes are kept cool, fresh and healthy despite the heat.

Federico tells me that this is exactly what you need to achieve the balance of ripeness and freshness to make truly great red wines.

Think luscious black cherries and blackberries, bright florals and those lovely tea leaf flavours you get in Italian reds. It’s spicy, powerful and smooth, but with a delicious elegance and freshness to it too.

I poured a sneak preview at our Spring tastings, and people loved it.

John Wilson of The Irish Times was seriously impressed, highlighting it as one of his wines of the tasting and adding: 'big and full-bodied with masses of dark fruits and a core of soft tannins; it still has a certain elegance. One for the hedonists amongst us'.

And because this is Salaparuta, and not Etna or even Tuscany, at €28.54 a bottle it is just amazing value for a wine of this quality.

A robust Italian.

Very dark colour, the nose is very inviting...dark fruit & some herbs.
Medium to full body, good grip, but for me the alcohol sticks out a lille too much.
Great wine for bbq.

Thank you, Noel!

Excellent smooth red

Really interesting wine. Very smooth. Needs to breathe for a while to release those chocolate notes. It is a very natural wine that has been very carefully brought to maturity and no way forced. Highly recommend.

So thrilled you liked it, Edmond!

Once again, another great find from Eamon and Winespark..

Enjoyed the Filari Nero with friends recently who all acknowledged how great it was.
The price wasn't bad either for such a good find...

So kind, thank you Tony!

Wow!

IFilari does it again. I thought this would be good but turns out it was great. Exceptional even. Another great winner from the great man. Convinced me to go and make my own iFilari mixed 6 pack in case I have been missing out on some other gems.

Serious praise, thank you Anthony!
