La Manufacture Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 2020

Valmur is one of seven Grand Crus in Chablis, and it’s considered one of its best.
It’s known for producing steely, fresh and mineral-driven Chardonnay, and this is an amazing example.
The vineyard here sits on top of a steep hill facing the sun, and is based on the famed Kimmeridgian soils that Chablis is famous for.
It’s from the 2020 vintage, which Benjamin describes as a dream.
The weather was ideal and the grapes achieved perfect ripeness and balanced acidity. Benjamin says it was an easy vintage for lazy winemakers as they had very little to do!
Benjamin however is no lazy winemaker, and his passion is highlighting the incredibly varied and nuanced areas that Chablis has to offer.
The nose is beautifully complex - it’s smoky, dense and mineral, with lovely notes of citrus and elderflower. On the palate it’s incredibly fine and balanced - and has great texture and structure from its ageing in 500L big French oak barrels.
