Frédéric makes 30 barrels in total of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. For this wine, L'Eclat, he takes his top 10 barrels which come from older vines, which are over 60 years old.
The barrels are mostly new oak, and the wine is aged in them for 18 months before bottling.
The blend is 58% Merlot and 42% Cabernet Franc - you get a dark, rich and savoury nose, and a structured, broad and juicy palate. There’s lovely bright aromatics from the Cab Franc - but this is a serious Bordeaux.
