Loire Discovery 6-pack
Member Price €141.78
Just two hours south of Paris, Sancerre is the holy grail of Sauvignon Blanc.
Winemakers all over the world - from New Zealand through to South Africa and Chile - try (and nearly always fail) to emulate it.
And right beside Sancerre you’ll find Pouilly Fumé and Menetou-Salon - definitely less famous, but just as capable of producing world-class Sauvignon.
These are all tiny regions - Sancerre is one-tenth the size of Bordeaux. The wines have been in high demand for decades, especially as they pair so well with the finest gastronomy.
So with a bit of sunshine finally here, I’ve mixed a special 6-pack of these estates so you can taste some of the Loire’s finest whites for yourself.
In the case you’ll get:
- 2x Domaine de Saint Romble Sancerre Vieilles Vignes 2024 - made in the same way as the regular Sancerre, but the vines here are up to 90 years old, giving more concentration and power to the wine
- 1x Domaine de Saint Romble Sancerre 2025 - from the famous Terres Blanches soils which give a gloriously wide spectrum of flavour to the Sauvignon grapes - everything from tropical, herbaceous to cassis flavours. This is classic Sancerre at an amazing price
- 2x Domaine du Grand Brussy Menetou-Salon 2023 - one of the Loire’s best-kept secrets, and rarely found outside of France. You get the elegance and sophistication of a Sancerre, but the clay soils give it a much richer and more tropical flavour. Menetou is the white by-the-glass option in most Parisian restaurants - and it’s easy to see why!
- 1x Domaine des Berthiers Pouilly Fumé 2025 - the vineyards are based on silex (flint), which is the most coveted soil in Pouilly Fumé. This brings out a piercing, mineral and almost smoky expression of Sauvignon Blanc - you don’t get this anywhere else in the world! ‘Outstanding value for money’ wrote John Wilson of a previous vintage in The Irish Times.
P.s. Here’s our full range of Sauvignon Blancs at the moment, including one of my sneaky all-time favourite wines, the barrel-aged Pouilly Fumé Cuvée d'Ève!
The Loire is the true home of Sauvignon Blanc - nowhere else does it taste as pure, characterful and authentic.
I’ve got a pretty good contact here from my Naked years - Joost de Villebois - who owns one of the biggest family producers in the Sancerre area, Fournier Pere et Fils.
