There’s DOC Prosecco and then there’s DOCG Prosecco. DOCG is the top 10% of Prosecco, made in the hills rather than the flat plains.
Umberto’s Rocciamadre Brut Prosecco is also the only Prosecco made by hand from five ancient grape varieties, from steep hilly sites with a wonderful mixture of soils.

Umberto Marchiori and his family are a rare breed indeed - a small Prosecco producer. In a region dominated by mass-produced generic-tasting fizz, Marchiori wines really stand out.
He went to university 20 years ago with a mutual friend of ours, Carlos Rodriguez, which is how we got in touch. Funny how it took a well-travelled Spaniard living in Rioja to find me the real deal of Prosecco.
If you’re living in the Prosecco region, you’d be more likely to have a shot of this at 9am instead of a flat white. This also goes amazingly with raw fish.
