Alex decided to take the leap and start her own business with husband Wayne in 2018.

For her first wine, she chose a Chenin Blanc vineyard in the gorgeous Polkadraai sub-region of Stellenbosch, where afternoon sea-breezes blow in, amplifying the fruit character and freshness in the grapes.

Alex told me the grapes were picked on ‘the most spectacular Monday morning’ - it seemed like the perfect day to start her new adventure. So she called the wine Monday’s Child, after the old nursery rhyme.

After ageing for 7 months in old French oak, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve all that gorgeous character.

An aromatic, flinty and floral nose leads to an intense, piercing and refreshing palate, with gorgeous texture and impressive length.

I’m on a mission to get more people to drink Chenin Blanc, and this wine is exactly why.

Alex champions South Africa's two heritage varieties - Chenin Blanc and Cinsault. You could argue no country does these grapes better.

This Chenin is perfect when enjoyed with a large platter of freshly made sushi (especially salmon roses) and finished off with some pork & chive dumplings.  Another favourite is caramelized shallot pasta or caramelized lemon and date roast chicken with crispy potatoes.

An excellent aperatif

A lovely alternative to usual pre dinner drinks leaving the palate refreshed for the main attraction.

Yum yum pigs bum

The first bang is of edgy stone fruit and - im trying to pin it down- is it woody herbs/mineraly ? -which perked me up no end - like I’m really going to travel with this little baby. I love a winethat tells stories and awakens me to a different experience so that I have to stop and taste as opposed to an easy glug. The length is really good - sits around chatting to you for ages. And there is a lovely caramel hit in there that is lip smacking.

Best review ever!!! Cheers Eamon

Lovely chenin. Pale gold with white peach nose.

Salinity and racey acidity. Touch of oak adds roundness and complexity to the fruit. Longish too.

Thanks Paul Chenin is probably my favourite white grape and this is a great example
Cheers Eamon
