Alsace is home to some of France’s truly great white wines. The combination of warm climate, complex soils and centuries of winemaking knowhow makes it capable of making the most delicious aromatic whites.

But most people write off Alsace. They take one look at those tall slender bottles and dismiss it as sweet German wine. Which couldn’t be further from the truth.

This is good news however for those in-the-know, like you and me. The value here is amazing!

So I’ve mixed a 6-pack of Mélanie Pfister's beautiful whites, including a very special 2015 Grand Cru from one of Alsace’s best sites. In the case you’ll get:

  • 2x Berg Riesling 2022 - Mélanie is based in the village of Dahlenheim, just west of Strasbourg in the northern part of Alsace. It’s cool, fresh and windy up here, so you get a pure, refreshing style of Riesling. The winemaking is very gentle and this is just the perfect introduction to this grape from this great wine region
  • 2x Berg Riesling 2023 - you'll get two bottles of the new vintage so you can compare!
  • 1x Mel 2022 - The traditional Alsace blend is an afterthought called Edelzwicker, and is what I may have drunk in large quantities as a student. Mélanie set out to make a truly great white blend inspired by her travels, especially by her time at Cheval Blanc in St Emilion. Mel is made up of Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Muscat and Pinot Gris, where each grape adds something to a highly aromatic, fresh and exotic white wine
  • 1x Engelberg Grand Cru Riesling 2021 - Engelberg means ‘Angel’s Hill’ and it’s an apt name for such a special vineyard. It’s south-facing and based on soft yellow limestone soils, where the roots can grow deep and therefore produce grapes of great finesse and complexity. The nose here is amazing - I get candied lemons, pomegranate, limey-mineral flavours… all sorts. On the palate it’s balanced, persistent, smoky and juicy - with a long long finish. Powerful stuff.

Mélanie is everything you’d want in a winemaker.

She comes from great heritage, and she’s making her wine in a modern style, learnt from the best, while respecting the tradition and practices of the generations before her.

She works completely organically in the vineyard and winery, and was the first non-German to enroll in the Fair‘n Green programme, the flag bearer for sustainability in German wine.

Mélanie is seriously going places, and we’re so lucky to be on board for the journey!

Mélanie is the 8th generation of her family to run the Pfister wine business. She’s based in the village of Dahlenheim, in the northern part of Alsace and just west of Strasbourg.
