Your average New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is a one-trick pony - exploding out of the glass for instant gratification, but falls flat pretty soon thereafter.

Mike’s Meltwater is more of a thoroughbred - built to last, a much more interesting take on an amazing grape (ok, enough of the horse talk).

Mikes sources the grapes from two carefully-farmed blocks in the Wairau Valley in Marlborough. The vineyards sit on a mixture of clay and alluvial river soils and the yields are a little lower than usual - giving the grapes extra complexity and concentration.

Mike then works his magic in the winery - he waits for the wine to ferment naturally, instead of adding commercial aromatic yeast. This can take up to a week to initiate (instead of 1-2 days), but when it does, you get a wine with more texture, gentler acidity, and less in-your-face intense Sauvignon flavours.

It ends up being bone-dry, hugely drinkable, and brilliant with lots of different kinds of food.

Mike's great grandfather Marcus Joseph Paterson emigrated to New Zealand from Corofin Co. Clare in 1927.

So when Mike and wife Anna started Corofin, their own family business, they wanted to honour this history and special connection between his family and the land.

This is not NZ

We've had the "Better Half" of "Three Woolly Sheeps" and a "Squealing Pig" from Santa "(Villa) Maria". Give or take all the same.
This is not! It is a reductive wine, like a lot of the French Sauvignon Blancs (Bordeaux and Sancerre)
Nose: grass, thyme, kumquat and passion fruit (along with the reduction)
Palate: High acidity (you like this wine, you'll love dry, German Riesling), lots of thyme and passion fruit.
Loved it! For us 17 Pts.

Thanks Andreas, Sancerre texture and elegance is exactly what the winemaker was looking for here! Cheers Eamon
