This is an unmistakably South African Cabernet Sauvignon from an unmistakably South African winemaker.

It’s from the Helderberg sub-region of Stellenbosch, 45 minutes south-east of Cape Town.

And made by Wade Metzer, one of the up-and-coming names in South African wine.

The vineyards sit between the towering Helderberg Mountains and beautiful False Bay, and you can taste these extreme influences in the wine.

The blend is dominated by Cabernet with a small dollop of Shiraz and Cinsault - you get loads of bright blackberry and cassis from the Cab, the Cinsault adds aromatics while the Shiraz gives meatiness and spice.

If you want to taste top-end, authentic Cabernet the way it should taste, from a winemaker at the absolute top of his craft, you owe it to yourself to give this a try.

John Kelly (Limerick)

A deliciously smooth cabernet with lots of ripe black fruit and spice. Some cedar and spice from the oak also. Really nice drinking full bodied cab sav, great body and no doubt has some ageing potential but good now too.

Not convinced

Maybe my pallette isn't sophisticated enough for this, or I ate something "wrong" beforehand, but it was "just fine", nothing special, in my opinion.

David Shiel (Athlone)
Just so really really good

Had no idea of this cab when it arrived. Hugely surprised with subtle, ready to drink flavour. I guess I’m waiting for the strong, not quite sure if I really enjoy it taste, which I’ve experienced with French or other cabs.
This is in category of buy 6-12 bottles, have it ready for dinner with friends and barbecues. It’s a great wine. Totally unexpected.
