In this year’s special Christmas case, I’ve come up with a selection of wines that will tick every box and occasion this coming season.

Starting with six reds that are perfect for festive sipping:

  • A Chianti Rufina Riserva 2017 from Federico Cerelli - a rich, refined and complex red, with those classic Tuscan woody and violet notes. Eight years’ ageing makes it deliciously smooth and mellow - a proper Christmas table red
  • Tiberio Montepulciano d’Abruzzo - a deep and vibrant red, with flavours of juicy blackberry, coffee and dark chocolate, finishing smooth, fresh and spicy. ‘Italy’s best bargain in red wine now’ according to the Wall Street Journal
  • Stepp Cabernet Franc - a brand new wine from the legend that is Gerd Stepp. This is elegant, pure and delicious Cabernet Franc from Pfalz, with 20 months’ ageing in Grand Cru barrels from Burgundy adding serious luxury and depth
  • From the northern Rhône, Domaine Gerin La Champine Syrah. It’s from a small vineyard at the bottom of the famed Côte-Rôtie slopes - literally the other side of the road. It’s pure, juicy and joyful Syrah at just 12.5% alcohol
  • Vinyes d’Olivardots Gresa Empordà - quite possibly my most popular discovery of the year. This is like a good Priorat, at a fraction of the price
  • Lorca Poético Malbec - a powerful red from Mauricio’s Los Arboles vineyard, high up in Mendoza. A guaranteed crowd pleaser!

I’ve also picked out three whites that are absolutely singing at the moment:

  • Sal Albariño, a brand new white from Iria Otero. This is Galicia in a bottle - fresh, crisp and breezy from 20-25 year-old vineyards around the coastal area of Salnés
  • Cornin Mâcon-Fuissé Les Bruyères - another of my big finds of 2025… one sip and you’ll see why I rave about Romain Cornin. This is elegant, classy Chardonnay at an amazing price
  • Christmas starters always call for Sancerre - Domaine de Saint-Romble is an intense, concentrated Sauvignon Blanc made from the famous Terres Blanches soils - which gives it a kaleidoscope of mouth-watering flavours.

Plus the finishing touches:

  • To get the party started, Balma Corpinnat Brut Nature - a rich, complex and refreshing fizz, perfect for grazing on those completely addictive festive nibbles. It’s good enough to be served in Michelin-starred restaurants around Catalonia, which is absolutely good enough to be served in my house too
  • A slick WineSpark corkscrew and two pouring discs. I take my corkscrews seriously (I use them often enough!) and Pulltex are my favourites for look, feel and longevity
  • And a rare treasure - a 2007 Eiswein from Gerd Stepp. Made from Scheurebe grapes - gloriously golden and sweet, it’s the perfect finish to any big festive meal.

Last but not least, a 1.5L magnum of one of our biggest-selling reds - Alento Reserva Tinto.

Made from Luis Louro’s best grapes, and aged in fine French oak, this shows the true potential of Alentejo in Portugal.

It will keep everyone happy on the big day, it goes great with turkey, and if you’re on cooking duties - the bottle’s big enough to guarantee you a glass by the time you sit down!

P.s. If you fancy an even bigger step-up in quality, with the likes of Barolo, Côte-Rôtie and Champagne - then our Luxury Christmas Collection is for you.
