-
Cillar de Silos Torresilo Ribera del Duero 2021 - with its striking orange label and rich, opulent flavours, it’s a bottle that lasts long in the memory
- Cordero Hica Barbera d'Alba 2021 - an organic Barbera Superiore, never sold outside of Italy before. It’s made from a vineyard called Bricco Gatti, which is well known in Alba for producing the best Barbera
- Domaine de St Romble Sancerre Vieilles Vignes 2023 - an intense, concentrated Sauvignon Blanc made from the famous Terres Blanches soils - which gives it a pretty mind-blowing spectrum of flavours
- Champagne Leclerc Briant Brut Reserve - this is no ordinary Brut... it’s Leclerc Briant’s signature wine, their calling card, so it has to be brilliant and perfect every single year
- Pequenas Parcelas Gran Malbec 2015 - a powerful red aged in 100% new French oak for 18 months, from an immaculate vineyard high up in the Uco Valley in Mendoza
- Corofin Marlborough Pinot Noir 2022 - a blend of three vineyards - Wrekin, Settlement and Churton - to give a vibrant, balanced Pinot. Gentle winemaking preserves the vineyard qualities - and it spends 14 months in French oak to give it structure and spiciness
- Domaine de Boischampt Vayolette Juliénas 2020 - winemaker Thibaud's top wine, and shows you the amazing potential of Beaujolais. The vines are on north-facing slopes, so it’s more about freshness and florals here, rather than power
- Domaine de la Sarazinière Pouilly Fuissé ‘Le VII’ 2022 - a rich, ripe style of Chardonnay, made from seven small plots, each adding its own character and complexity to the end result. Like with all Mâcon, there’s plenty of weight and intensity, but there’s a lovely elegance and charm about this wine too
- Domaine Olivier Hillaire Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2022 - the best (and most expensive Châteauneufs) are made of Grenache, just like this one… Olivier is an up-and-coming producer that flies under the radar, but the quality here is sensational
- I Filari Toscana Cabernet Franc 2020 - Federico employs every trick in the luxury winemaking book to make this taste sensational. Think inky graphite nose, and a smooth, refined and focussed palate. It’s a Super Tuscan without the Super price tag
- Mélanie Pfister Engelberg Grand Cru Riesling 2021 - Engelberg means ‘Angel’s Hill’ and it’s an apt name for such a special vineyard. The nose here is amazing - I get candied lemons, pomegranate, limey-mineral flavours… all sorts. On the palate it’s balanced, persistent, smoky and juicy - with a long long finish. Powerful stuff.
And last but not least, the ultimate centrepiece for your Christmas table - a magnum of Château Leydet-Valentin Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2020.
