This is Virgile's most precious wine. It’s the 2016 vintage of the first ever wine that he made.

And Virgile tells me it’s exactly the wine that he dreamed of making, when he started on his long and illustrious winemaking journey back in 2000.

It’s from the tiny Saint-Saturnin appellation, in the southern hills of the Terrasses du Larzac. This region is home to the Languedoc’s most exciting (and expensive!) wines.

It’s a bit cooler than most of the Languedoc up here. So the Grenache, Carignan and Syrah grapes ripen with great freshness and flavour.

You also get serious structure and tannins - which only soften and mellow with the most precious ingredient of them all - time.

No expense or detail is spared in the making of this wine.

The organic grapes from low-yielding vineyards are hand-picked and hand-sorted in the winery, and the wine is then aged for 18 months in the finest of French oak.

If you like a robust Rhône red, with the smoothness of a good aged Bordeaux, then you should try this wine.

Ever since I launched WineSpark, Virgile has held on to his last bottles of 2016 for me.

So it’s amazing to finally get it out there - please enjoy it and let us know what you think!
