Chablis, France
Eve Grossot
Working in wine, it’s always a real joy to come across a young, ambitious producer breathing fire into a historic and established wine region.
That’s exactly what Eve Grossot is doing in Chablis.
She grew up among the vineyards of Fleys, a small village 5km east of Chablis. Unlike the flatter areas elsewhere in the region, the vines here grow on steeper slopes with poorer, more complex soils. They’re harder to farm, but the results are absolutely worth it.
Eve didn’t plan to take over the family business - she originally studied hospitality - but after graduating in 2007, she returned home and never left.
Her parents, Corinne and Jean-Pierre Grossot, were highly-respected Chablis producers in their own right, so maybe joining the family business was destiny!
Eve helped drive the domaine’s big move to organics and sustainability, a change that clearly shows in the vibrancy and energy of the wines. In fact today Eve is the only organic producer in Fleys.
When her parents retired three years ago, Eve took full control. She gave the labels a long-overdue refresh (after 30 years!) based on a beautiful painting by her aunt.
I’m thrilled to have landed a rising star of Chablis for Ireland - make sure you try the wines and let me know what you think.
