When it comes to fine wine in Spain, Bierzo is a region on the rise.
But not all Bierzo is made equally. This wine is from a remote village called San Pedro de Olleros, high up in the Los Ancares mountains.
It’s in the middle of a beautiful UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and it’s cooler and fresher up here than down in the main Bierzo valley.
It means the grapes are incredibly vibrant and healthy, and you can see this shine through in the wine.
Winemaker Silvia is on a mission to restore and rejuvenate the small vineyards of the village, and she vinifies each plot separately here and ages the wine in French oak for 8-9 months.
This is a dark, pure and spicy style of Mencía, showing a lovely bit of age and oak. It’s very juicy, bright and balanced - exactly what good Bierzo should taste like.
Due to very low stock there's a limit of two bottles per customer on this wine.
