What could possibly go wrong - introducing the Big Six Bank Holiday Edition.
The big weekend ahead calls for the biggest wines. So for the week that’s in it, I decided to make a Big Six with rocket boosters on.
In the case you’ll get a bottle each of my favourite big reds at the moment:
- Cordero Hica Barbera d'Alba 2021 - winemaker Serena’s pet project and never sold outside of Italy before WineSpark. It’s a Barbera Superiore, a classification given to the top 20% of grapes in the region. It’s unmistakably Italian on the nose, with flavours of dark fruit, herbs and tea leaves on the nose. It’s rich, creamy and powerful on the palate, yum yum
- Domaine Habrard Marion Crozes Hermitage 2020 - made in the best vintages only, winemaker Laurent chooses his top Syrah grapes and bottles a special wine, named after one of his team. The Marion is everything you’d want in a classic northern Rhône red - pepper, perfume, and power
- I Filari Nero D’Avola 2020 - made by one of Italy’s finest winemakers, think luscious black cherries and blackberries, bright florals and those lovely tea leaf flavours you get in Italian reds, with an added splash of Sicilian sunshine
- Olivier Hillaire Côtes du Rhône Vieilles Vignes 2022 - a rich, juicy blend of Syrah and Grenache, farmed organically and made in exactly the same way as Olivier’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape
- Terre des Dames La Diva 2020 - a blend of Syrah, Grenache and a special 100 year-old parcel of Alicante Bouschet in Lidewij’s vineyard in Saint-Chinian. 12 months in finely-grained Burgundy oak barrels gives the wine a lovely softness but preserves all the amazing aromas from the fruit
- La Suerte de Arrayán Garnacha 2018 - a single vineyard, high altitude Garnacha from 70 year-old vines in the Gredos mountains. Think Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but with extra elegance and freshness.
These wines will go amazingly well with good company, rugby victories and anything that once went ‘moo’.
Don't forget we cut off for long weekend delivery at 12pm on Thursday!
