This Barbera was one of the first wines I decided to bring in for WineSpark.

It’s a deep, rich red with serious personality. ‘A bit impolite like me’ says winemaker Serena.

I’d never tasted it before - its tiny production would have been way too small to come across my radar before. And that’s the best thing about it.

It’s from an area called Bricco Gatti, well-known to experts as one of Alba’s best vineyards.

The vineyard is a prime south-west facing site - the extended afternoon sun gives the Barbera grapes serious power.

It’s lovingly tended to, vine by vine, by Serena’s brother Gabriele. He’s at peak happiness surrounded by the bees, bugs and butterflies that thrive in the vineyard.

This attention to detail doesn’t happen anywhere else in the region. And the meticulous work speaks for itself in the wine.

It’s unmistakably Italian on the nose, with aromas of dark fruit, dried herbs and tea leaves. Then it’s rich, creamy and powerful on the palate - if you love your Italian reds, this is absolutely guaranteed to be right up your street.

Serena and Gabriele Cordero are a brother and sister duo from Alba in northern Italy.

I've known Serena and her dad Gianfranco for years at Naked Wines, so I knew exactly who to ask when I was looking for some special Barolo and Barbera for WineSpark.

Tajarin (Piedmont's handmade pasta, with eggs), with Alba's white truffle, and butter instead of olive oil. Yum yum yum.

This is a fantastic wine

Had it with food and it was amazing and I ended up buying another box of the wine as I gave some away as special presents . Great value for €28 a bottle as it tasts like a €50 bottle

Thanks so much for the review Morgan.
Delighted you loved it so much, and what a great present to give too!
Cheers, Eamon

Simply fantastic

Nose: lots of black cherry, dark chocolat
Palate: similar flavours, very firm grip, good acidity and even quite some unexpected tannins at the end.
Even though the alcohol is quite high, it's superbly balanced.
Great wine! For us 17+ Pts.

Thanks so much Andreas, fantastic to hear this was another winner for you. Cheers Eamon

Excellent

This is a classy red that doesn’t disappoint. Really enjoyed it and have had a number of vintages at this stage. One where Winespark membership shows its value.

Super review, thank you John!

Delicious

Beautiful wine - we’re not typically huge Italian wine fans but this is very vibrant and went well paired with a tomato based pasta dish. Will be ordering again!

So happy you liked it Adam!

Unfortunately the cork disintegrated but wine seemed fine. Enjoyable wine just not to my taste.

Hi Keith,

Sorry that the wine was to your taste! I've sent you a refund for it now, so you can try another bottle on us that you will hopefully enjoy better!

Cheers Eamon

My favourite red wine by a long shot!

I bought this pack when you first sent out the email a few months ago. I was starting to get my Christmas wine list ready and this was one of a few I had lined up. The search was pretty short because after having this with our lunch one Sunday I knew I had the right wine!

Outstanding.

Superb example of a great Italian red. Beautiful, warming, slow sipping by the fireside on chilly evenings.
