A couple of years back when I was in Beaujolais, Thibaud Baudin tipped me off on a friend of his doing ‘amazing things’ with Chardonnay and Gamay up the road in Mâcon.

It turned out Sarazinière was 15 minutes away, so it was a no-brainer to call in and see Guillaume. And I’m so glad I did.

Thibaud tells me Sarazinière is destined to become one of Mâcon’s great producers - they have some amazing sun-kissed sites, with an average vineyard age of 60 years, which they’ve been farming organically for decades.

So I’ve mixed a 6-pack so you can try them for yourself. In it you’ll get:

• 4x Domaine de la Sarazinière Pouilly Fuissé ‘Le VII’ 2022 - a rich, ripe style of Chardonnay, made from seven small plots, each adding its own character and complexity to the end result. Like with all Mâcon, there’s plenty of weight and intensity, but there’s a lovely elegance and charm about this wine too
• 2x Domaine de la Sarazinière Mâcon Bussières Rouge 2022 - Guillaume’s top red, made from a special old Gamay vineyard that his grandfather planted in 1926. The wine is made in a Burgundian style, with open-top fermentation and aged for 17 months in neutral oak barrels. It’s a delicious juicy and charming red, with lovely texture, bright red fruit and a hint of spice.

Mâcon is very much on the up, with iconic Burgundy names such as Comtes Lafon and Domaine Leflaive investing heavily here in recent years.
