Domaine Jean Fournier Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru 2023
Member Price €63.96
It’s hard to find ‘value’ in Burgundy these days, but by coming to WineSpark you’ve already made a good start.
Pernand-Vergelesses might be one of the best value Premier Crus you can get your hands on in all of Burgundy. Especially as it’s located so close to the legendary Corton-Charlemagne.
Laurent picked up this vineyard from a grower neighbour in Marsannay - when he retired, his only daughter wasn’t interested in farming the land.
So Laurent inherited a gem of a vineyard, planted in the 1950s, in excellent health. It produces a very low output of small, concentrated berries.
Pernand-Vergelesses reds have a reputation for being a bit thin and weedy - this wine couldn’t be any different than that. It’s dark, rich and powerful, with a beautiful balance of perfumed fruit and spice.
When I pressed Laurent as to why this particular vineyard was different, he had no idea.
‘C’est le mystère du vin’ he replied, and with that classically French answer, I couldn’t be happier.
Due to limited supply, there's a limit of one bottle per customer on this wine.
